Video Nasties is Malta’s premier horror film festival, now entering its sixth year of celebrating the macabre, the DIY, and the truly independent.

We believe that filmmakers learn and grow by doing: by picking up a camera, collaborating, and ultimately watching their work on the big screen. That’s why we remain a no-barrier festival.

 

We guarantee a screening for every film submitted at Malta’s largest cinema complex, provided they meet our technical rules and premiere exclusively at our event.

Since our inception in 2020, Video Nasties has led to the creation of over 60 original horror shorts. Many of these films have moved beyond our shores to screen at major international festivals and take home global awards.

We are committed to fostering a fearless filmmaking community in Malta—one that supports its peers to push the boundaries of the genre further every year. Of course, we also believe in a little friendly competition, with numerous awards and our signature gruesome trophies up for grabs for the most outstanding (and outrageous) entries.
